Project #1

Game Design Analysis Paper - 2 to 4 pages typed; illustrations optional

This report will be an analysis of a game of your choice; either a traditional board game, video game, computer game, or on-line internet game.
The subject will be evaluated based on the game design elements discussed in class including:

- concept
- structure
- formal elements (including controls and interface)
- dramatic elements
- system dynamics
- is it fun? or is it D.O.A.?

week 08 assignment, Mid Term quiz & project, due the Week 11

Project #2 - Game Design Document

Using the iterative process of designing, playtesting and revising a game system, each team will generate a Game Design Document formalizing and describing your game.

Project will be graded on the following criteria:
- formal elements
- dramatic elements
- rule presentation
- playtesting process
- overall design

Grades at the "A" level will require more than these minimums. The more original the design, the better the grade.


week 12 assignment, FINAL project, Due Week 16

Project #3 - Game Prototype and Document

Using the iterative process of designing, playtesting and revising a game system, each team will generate a Game PROTOTYPE and Game Design Document.
If you are using the midterm game concept for your Prototype, the the document will be a Game Project Plan.

Project will be graded on the previous criteria of game elements in Project #2.
