week 02 assignment - game report due week 04

Read Game Development Essentials - Chapter One - Historical Elements

Write a "game report" on a video or computer game. This should be about two typed pages, and is due week 04. It should cover the following topics:

Briefly describe the game product, including the features, goals and audience

Discuss the kinds of media used (sound, graphics, images, etc.) and how they are used

Discuss the quality of the game in terms of:

  • Media design (visual, audio, text)
  • Ease of use
  • The game's success in achieving its goals

Discuss how this interactive game compares with similar non-interactive titles (e.g. movie, comic book, or non-electronic game).

week 04 assignment, due week 08

Develop a Game Document. The document can use drawings or photos of your own, or you may scan images, and import them from the web. No original hand-drawn art please! Always make photo copies of original art to submit for presentations. Documents should be HARD COPY, typed, computer published, and bound in a folder for professional presentation. Presentation is highly encouraged for best grade.

The Game Document should include the following:

  • game title and "catchy" sales title
  • overview description - license, if any
  • description of game play
  • possible procedures and outcomes
  • why this game would be fun

Grades at the "A" level will require more than these minimums. The more original the design, the better the grade.

week 08 assignment, due week 16

Develop a Powerpoint or Posterboard Presentation. The document should represent a story board of your own design. You may scan images, and import them from the web. No original hand-drawn art on posterboards! Always make photo copies of original art for presentations. Documents should be computer printed for professional presentation.

The Game Flow Presentation should include the following:

  • navigation map of the game
  • diagram of actions in a typical game encounter
  • interface control descriptions
  • character or environment illustrations
